1970 a boy in the magical world of my Grandads coal cellar come workshop, rummaging through old biscuit tins of mechanical bits and bobs that any hoarder would be proud. Mecchano & Lego probably had a part to play. Also a tin pedal car and when in Nederland, a push along lawn mower by Husqvarna and a folding bicycle. Probably lots of other random influences too.
1980 a teenager with a paper round and a cleaning job. Bought a Honda MT5 new for £400 and set about de-restricting the engine, riding illegally off road and taking first road trip from Crawley, West Sussex to Swanage, Dorset. Learnt how to lubricate a very dry and hot chain with lard, that adidas trainers and jeans are not good riding attire and wished I'd kept wax cotton Belstalf coat.
1990 an adolescent with an addiction to trail riding in Southern England with TRF and the Annual long wet weekends with fellow nutters in the Lakes. Bikes, Honda XR250RE and XR250RG.
2000 a man who has the scars of a broken leg and KTM 400 EXC.
2007 a man needing a replacement for trial riding since legislation restricts off-road riding. Buys a big trail bike that's built for adventure. Fist ride in February to Barcelona via the Millau bridge.
New addiction. Second ride to Rome. Barrel rolled in the Alps on way home. Opps!
2008 a man in his element. Two weeks riding in Southern Europe. Discover Route 66 and Moto Clube Faro.
2009 a man wanting what he had last year and more. March ride to Sicily. Explored the island including going up mount Etna at midnight to see the lava flows. Then two weeks again in August, discover Moto Camping Dorgdogne and another T-shirt from Moto Clube Faro.
2010 a wiser man taking the long route through central Portugal.
2011 a man seeking new lands maybe? South or West? The saga continues.......
